Ali Yerlikaya was born on October 11, 1968 in Konya, Turkey. After he obtained his elementary, middle school, and high school education in Konya, he received his undergraduate degree from Istanbul University (İU), Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Public Administration in 1989.

He began his career as a district governor candidate in the Ministry of Interior in 1990.

He was appointed as district governor in Felahiye, Kayseri in 1993. After that, he served as district governor in Hilvan (Urfa) and Sarıkaya (Yozgat).

He was appointed as the Governor of Şırnak in 2007. He also served as governor of Ağrı, Tekirdağ, and Gaziantep.

He was appointed as the Governor of İstanbul on October 26, 2018, upon No. 2018/202 Presidential Decree. (AS/VK)

The Ministry of Interior has appointed Governor of İstanbul Ali Yerlikaya as the Deputy-Mayor of the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality after the Supreme Election Council (YSK) canceled İstanbul local elections on May 7th, 2019.

Mayor Yerlikaya is married with four children.
