The Ferih Egemen Children’s Theater, which was renovated by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality began with an opening ceremony at the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipal Complex. Mr. Kadir Topbaş, the mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municpality, Mr. Erhan Erol, the mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa, Mr. Aziz Babuşçu, the chairman of the Istanbul chapter of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party),directors of the Municipal Theater of Istanbul, and many children participated in opening ceremony.

“Theater is a window for children to keep in contact with the world”

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Mr. Kadir Topbaş expressed that they opened the second children’s theater after the opening of Kagıthane Children’s Theater. He continued his words saying, “Children’s plays used to be performed on theater stages where adults went to watch plays in the past. Physically those theaters were not suitable for children. Now, we are building theaters which are suitable for children for our city. Therefore, we opened the theater called “Küçük Kemal Children’s Theater” last year, and today we are opening a children’s theater with a capacity of 260 seats. This theather building is important in carrying the name of the deceased actor Ferih Egemen who served Turkish Theaters for many years. He was a valuable personality, teacher, author of children's plays, and an actor at the Municipal Theaters of Istanbul. He also provided education to many actors at the Municipal Theaters.”

Mayor Mr. Topbaş stressed that these type of places were important art and cultural centers where the children played as well as some of the common activities in which they participated, “If our children do not have an understanding of the role of motivation in such places, they may not healthfully be able to walk into future. During the Seljuk and Ottoman times such places in which cultural and artistic activities devoted to children had been built by our ancestors. We are trying to perform a service for our children with the same understanding sharing the beauty together and carrying them into future. We want to improve the ability of our children, we want to open windows and doors so that  they will keep contact with the world. Our goal is to prepare our people for the future in the best way. Because there is a serious competition in our globalized world.”he said.
