Golden Bread produced by Halk Ekmek Co sold for only twenty-five cents…

Mayor Mr. Kadir Topbaş  introduced a special nutritious bread called “Golden Bread” which is produced by Halk Ekmek Co (IHE) for children. He pointed out that they would establish a very modern and large bread factory in the Halkalı district of Istanbul and use natural sour dough in making bread.

Halk Ekmek Co – one of the subsidiaries of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality – introduced a new bread which is very nutritious and nourishing for the people of Istanbul. Mr. Kadir Topbaş, the Mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality introduced a special bread containing plenty of hazelnuts, raisins, wheat germs, carobs, and turmeric. Mr. Cahit Altunay, the mayor of Sultangazi; Mr. Salih Bekaroğlu, the General Director of Halk Ekmek Co (IHE); and many press members participated in the introductory meeting held at IHE’s factory located in Cebeci, Istanbul.

The Golden Bread, which is a new product  designed especially to help students lead a more nutritional life by meeting a significant portion of their daily vitamin mineral, protein, and energy needs also meets the energy, protein and vitamins needs of developing children. Being a first in Turkey, instead of products produced from refined materials (including flour, sugar, margarine and preservatives), the new bread is produced with ingredients including natural flour, wheat germs, hazelnuts, and raisins, carob flour – used as a sweetener.

Mayor Topbaş: “IHE does not compete, it leads the way”

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Kadir Topbaş, the Mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality stated that the factory of IHE located in Edirnekapı went fell out of date and might be unable to meet the needs of the people. He continued asfollows,; “Our factory located in Edirnekapı became worn out and now it is no longert sufficient as a structure or to meet production needs.of both systems as well as structure. We wanted land from the TOKI (Mass Housing Administration of Turkey) right next to our land in Halkalı, that which is our logistics center, built much more modern in every way and with an adequate capacity. Our Logistics Center can serve food for one-hundred thousand people per day. We want to get place the main factory here. We built this factory there because in certain circumstances, such as potential disaster earthquake, we thought that it must should be located in an important point of for all the transport axis which and cwould make its production here attractive. The length of production line at the factory must be at least 100 meters long and if it can bewere to be 150-200 meters long, it could be used sourdough instead of factory yeast. Here breads comes out in an hour.  Since uBy using natural sourdough here instead of yeast, breads will be produced in one and half hour. We want to move our factory here within two years.”. 

Mayor Mr. Topbaş stressed that local authorities had to facilitate the lives of people and to create health-related activities in the cities. He stated that they tried to provide people the ability to reach healthy food sources by developing the IHE with this understanding. Mr. Kadir Topbaş expressed that the IHE meets thirteen percent of the bread needs of Istanbul with its hygienic production of bread.“ Bread is a basic food source which is healthy and nutritious. We are trying to meet the bread needs of our people in the best way. Therefore, the IHE is serving the people of Istanbul under the leading understanding. We never intend to compete with others,” he said.
