After a 6.6 magnitude earthquake that took place in Izmir, upon the instruction of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu, a crisis desk was set up at Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), an affiliate of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and rescue teams dispatched to quake areas.

Over 27 vehicles and nearly 150 rescue workers of the Fire Department of IMM, Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (ISKI) and the Department of Support Services, were dispatched to the earthquake stricken areas.

After a 6.6 magnitude earthquake that took place in Izmir at 14.51 PM, a crisis desk was established at AKOM under the presidency of Mr. Can Akın Çağlar, the Secretary-General of the IMM.

Under the coordination of AKOM, a team of officers from the “IMM Disaster and Emergency Response Plan” was established to participate in search and rescue activities in the area where the earthquake occurred.

After the meeting ended, the IMM has made a decision to send search and rescue teams and first responders to the affected area. The first team left Istanbul for Izmir on Friday evening to provide help to those affected by the devastating earthquake.

The IMM also sent 102 staffers, 16 vehicles, and three mobile field kitchens which have the capacity to serve over 25,000 people.

In addition, a food truck set off to Izmir to serve three meals a day to 4,000 people, and it will stay in the city for at least 10 days.

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is closely following the relief works and conveyed his best wishes to the people of Izmir, who are victims of the earthquake disaster and wished God's mercy to those who lost their lives.
