Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Supports Earthquake-Affected Elazığ

An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 hit the Sivrice district of Elazığ province at around 8:55 PM on January 24, 2020.

Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that took place in the Sivrice district of Elazığ, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attended a meeting held at the Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

The IMM has made a decision to send search and rescue teams and first responders to the affected area. The first team left Istanbul for Elazığ on Friday night to provide help to those affected by the devastating earthquake.

The team consists of 30 search and rescue vehicles, 10 fire trucks, 1 water tank, 1 cold food truck, 2 flatbed trucks, 66 firefighters, 8 cooks, 8 drivers and 2 assistant personnel.

In addition, a food truck set off to Elazığ to serve three meals a day to 3 thousand people, and it will stay in the city for at least one week.

All search and rescue and first response teams of the IMM are planned to arrive in the Sivrice district at noon today, and a tunnel vehicle was also sent to Elazig by plane.

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is following the relief works closely, and has expressed his solidarity with those affected by the earthquake and condolences for those who lost their lives.
