POP-MACHINA Meeting to Focus on Recycling Economy

POP-MACHINA, a project led jointly by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s (IMM) European Union Affairs Directorate, Waste Management Directorate, İSTAÇ Inc., Planet Turkey and Koç University will be introduced to the public in a launching event and workshop that will take place on November 28-29.

The project is funded by the European Union’s (EU) Horizon 2020 programme which aims to support scientific research and development and innovation projects. Horizon 2020 is currently the world's highest budget grant program.

POP-MACHINA aims to enhance circular economy through the recycling of waste, and support local communities by increasing their potential. The project was officially launched on 25 June 2019 in Leuven, Belgium, and intends, through implementing an elaborate community engagement programme, to encourage and support existing maker communities while helping create new ones in Leuven (BE), Istanbul (TR), Kaunas (LT), Piraeus (GR), Santander (ES), Thessaloniki (GR) and Venlo (NL).

The workshop aims to build a network with existing and new initiatives in municipalities. While doing so, it aims to take advantage of the latest technologies such as factory-of-the future and blockchain, as well as academic disciplines including urban planning and architecture.
