Istanbul’s Landmarks to Shine Green for Cerebral Palsy

The Galata Tower and Bosphorus Bridges will turn green on the evening of Sunday 6 October to raise awareness on World Cerebral Palsy day.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) is joining with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Association for Children with Cerebral Palsy (SERÇEV), and the Spastic Children’s Foundation of Turkey to raise awareness for cerebral palsy on October 6.

Istanbul will join the rest of the world to draw attention to the neurological disease that threatens millions of children around the world. From the evening of October 6 until daybreak on October 7, Istanbul’s Galata Tower, the 15 July Martyrs’ Bridge, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge will light up green – the internationally-designated colour of the disease.

Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that affects movement and posture, caused by damage that occurs to the immature brain as it develops - most often before birth. It affects 17 million people worldwide.
