Mayor İmamoğlu Visits Turkey’s Largest Animal Shelter in Istanbul

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu visited the Kısırkaya Temporary Shelter for Stray Animals in the Sarıyer district on Wednesday.

Drawing attention to the lack of information in the public sphere regarding incidents involving street animals, İmamoğlu instructed his aides to draw up a manifesto on the issue by the end of October 2019.

The Mayor said, “We must answer every question. Our fellow citizens may not have information, they may question or even accuse us, but we must have an answer at all times.”

Mayor İmamoğlu was accompanied by his younger son Semih, and a delegation including the Deputy Secretary-Generals of the IMM Mr. Murat Kalkanlı and Mr. Murat Yazıcı, and the main opposition Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) Istanbul deputy Mr. Gökhan Zeybek.

IMM’s Director of Veterinary Services Mr. Muhammet Nuri Coşkun showed the Mayor around the facility.

The Kısırkaya Shelter is Turkey’s largest animal shelter and aims to serve the needs of stray animals in the country's largest city, Istanbul.
