Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu Pays His Second Time Visit to Anitkabir

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu has paid his second time visit to Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic to pay his respects to Atatürk.

Mayor Imamoglu and his accompanying delegation have paid a visit to Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Turkish Republic's Founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, in Ankara, on July 12, 2019.

After the family photo shoot, İmamoğlu left a written message on the book of commemoration to pay tribute to Atatürk.

"I bow respectfully in front of your cherished memory with 16 million patriotic Istanbulites, district mayors and city councilors who allowed for these lines to be rewritten. Sovereignty belongs to the Nation unconditionally.” Imamoğlu wrote in Anıtkabir’s guestbook.

AK Party and MHP district mayors, including their city councilors, did not attend the visit to the Mausoleum. During Imamoglu’s visit to Anıtkabir, all protocol rules were followed strictly.

Firstly, the Mayor’s delegation entered the courtyard of the Mausoleum from Lion Road, leading to the mausoleum where he was met with a military ceremony. Imamoglu placed a wreath on Atatürk's mausoleum to pay respect to the founder and a moment of silence was held and Turkey's national anthem was sung by Imamoglu and the delegation.

“Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Founder of the Republic of Turkey;

Today, in your spiritual presence, in the 100th year of the Kuvay-I Milliye spirit, which you started in 1919, I promise to serve with reason and science without compromising all the historical background and spirituality of Istanbul, the most beautiful city of our heavenly homeland, as we are a free-minded and free-willed generation of 21. century with the same spirit. I bow respectfully in front of your cherished memory with 16 million patriotic Istanbulites and district mayors and councilors who allowed for these lines to be rewritten. Sovereignty belongs to the Nation unconditionally. Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality,” he wrote in Anıtkabir’s guestbook and read it out in front of the cameras.

Imamoğlu then met with the citizens waiting for him at the exit gates of the Anıtkabir, where he took photos with citizens who have been there to show their support.

Then, the ceremony has ended in Anıtkabir.
