An International Award to the Smart Recycling Container of Istanbul Municipality

The “Smart Recycling Container”, which was carried out by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) within the scope of its Zero Waste vision, received another award at the International Public Transport Summit and Fair in Sweden.

On the International Public Transport Summit and Fair, which is the world's largest public transport event, 400 projects competed for the “UITP Turkey Regional Awards”. The project, titled "Smart Recycling Container" that IMM has implemented at 100 different points has been awarded the best project award for encouraging recycling and public transportation.

The “Smart Recycling Container”, which has been developed by ISBAK, a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is also highly appreciated internationally. The container placed at 100 different points across Istanbul, having collected 2.5 million pieces of waste within 8 months, regaining them for the environment and for the citizens of Istanbul, has been chosen the best project in “UITP Turkey Regional Awards”.

15,000 Guests Visited the Event
 

The International Public Transport Summit and Fair, the world's largest event in the field of public transport, was held on June 9-12 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden. 373 companies from 80 different countries participated in the fair, which was held for the 63rd time this year. More than 15 thousand guests visited the fair, which attracted the greatest attention in the field and exhibited the latest products of the companies.

400 Projects from Turkey and All over the World Took Part

In the scope of the summit, the "UITP Turkey Regional Awards Ceremony" was held. A total of 400 projects from Turkey and all over the world applied for the contest, which is counted among the most outstanding awards of the sector. As a result of the evaluation made by the expert jury, the “Smart Recycling Container” by ISBAK, a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, was awarded with the best project award. A recycling project carried out by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) within the scope of the country's zero-waste vision was awarded at the Global Public Transport Summit in Sweden.

The project, titled "Smart Recycling Container", received "best project prize" competing against some 400 projects from the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).

The summit was held for the 63rd time this year in Stockholm between June 9 and 12.

A total of 373 firms from 80 countries participated in the summit where they presented their newest products and over 15,000 attendees visited the fair.

As part of the IMM's project, Istanbulites can load money/credit onto their public transport cards by recycling materials such as plastic bottles and aluminum beverage boxes via special machines in various public transport stations. The project aims to promote recycling and wider use of public transport.

Founded in 1885, the UITP has members from more than 1,700 institutions worldwide, consisting of public transport operators, central administrations, local governments, industrial organizations, research centers, academics, and consultants, and is the largest public transport association in the world.
