IBBSK Athletes Keep Winning Medals for Turkey

The athletes of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club (IBBSK), which is taking a leading part of Turkish sports continued to collect medals for Turkey in the international arena.

The athletes have collected various medals at international competitions held in different branches during the last weekend, and which gave the license points to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club continues to serve Turkish sports with about a total of  40 thousand athletes in 20 different branches.

One of the important organizations of the World Karate Federation called “the Karate 1-Premier League” held in Shanghai, China and the Turkish National Team participated with a total of 18 athletes, of which 13 are elected from the İBBSK Karate Team.

The owners of the "Best of the Best" award demonstrated excellent form and dominated the competition with victories here in Shanghai. Serap Ozcelik achieved her fifth gold medal in seven events and confirmed her favorite status in the category of Female Kumite -50kg.

The second gold medal for Grand Winners was claimed by Ugur Aktas and he prevailed in Male Kumite -84kg after getting a 4-3 victory over Ivan Kvesic of Croatia. Erman Eltemur won bronze in Kumite 75kg at the tournament.

Great Achievements in Judo, Wrestling, and Archery

Can Güzel won a bronze medal at -90 kg in the Balkan Judo Championship held in Zvornik, Bosnia, and Herzegovina. A total of 239 athletes from 9 countries participated in the tournament, the National team won a gold, 2 silver, and 11 bronze medals.

The European Junior Wrestling Championships held in Spain, freestyle national sportsman Ahmet Duman won the silver medal.

At the Money Archery World Championships held in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, the National team received 7 quotas for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, while Istanbul BBSK athletes achieved 4 quotas.

In addition, the National Bow Women's National Team, which included Yağmur Şengul, an athlete of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club, came in second at the World Championship. The IMM's Erdoğan Aygan and Bülent Korkmaz from Archery Roller Team of Turkey won the silver medals at the competition.
