About One-Million and 400 Thousand People Visit Museums Run by Municipality in 5 Months of 2019

A total of about 1,400,000 people have visited museums, which operate under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the data revealed.

About 1,400,000 people have visited museums of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) in the first five months of 2019, according to the data revealed.  

A total of 3 museums and 2 cisterns operated by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Inc., a subsidiary of the municipality were visited by 1.303.115 domestic and foreign tourists in the first five months of 2019.

Miniaturk is a small theme park in Istanbul that has many of Turkey's famous buildings and sites in miniature was visited by 303.854 people in the first five months of 2019.

Miniatürk, bringing together the rich architectural heritage of the civilizations that had ruled and left their marks on this ancient land from ancient ages to Rome, Byzantine, Seljuk Empire and Ottoman Empire, was completed by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Inc.

A total of 228.736 people have visited the Panorama 1453 museum as well.

The Panorama 1453 History Museum, established by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 2009, holds the title of ‘the world’s first full-panoramic museum’. As one of the most popular spots in Istanbul, the museum gives its visitors a chance to relive the conquest of Istanbul.

Moreover, a total of 46. 943 visitors have visited Topkapı Turkish World Cultural Houses, where tents of Turkic Republics are located.

Tourists show great interest in Cisterns

The cisterns operated by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Inc. have also recently been attracted by local and foreign tourists.

In the first 5 months of this year, the Basilica Cistern, one of Istanbul's splendid historical buildings was visited by 651,519 visitors and the Sherefiye Cistern by 72 thousand 255 people as well.

The Atatürk Museum, run by the IMM’s Directorate of Libraries and Museums, was visited by 31,103 people, the Fire Brigade Museum was visited by 8,717 and the Aşiyan Museum was visited by 27,000 people in the first 5 months of the year.

Since 2004, the number of local and foreign tourists visiting Atatürk, the Fire Brigade and Aşiyan Museums has also reached 1,627,072 people.

The museums and cisterns, which operate under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality had been visited by 3,392,134 people in 2018.
