Free Plays by IMM’s City Theatres on World Theatre Day

The World Theatre Day (WTD) is celebrated on 27 March by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's (IMM) City Theatres performing eight free theater plays in Istanbul.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's (IMM) City Theatres will perform eight free theater plays with the aim of celebrating the 27 March World Theater Day in Istanbul.

• Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage - Cute And Crazy (Tatlı Kaçık)

• Fatih Reşat Nuri Stage – You have my word (Söz Veriyorum)

• Kağıthane Sadabad Scene - Felatun Bey ile Rakım Efendi

• Kadıköy Haldun Taner Stage –Life-saver

• Üsküdar Musahipzade Celal Stage - Love (Once upon a time in Istanbul- Gazele)

• Ümraniye Stage - Springtime in January

• Gaziosmanpaşa Stage - Nora - A Baby House -1879 -Henrik İBSEN

• Üsküdar Kerem Yılmazer Stage – Relentless Avni

These plays will be performed free on Wed. 27 March, 2019 at 20.30 p.m. at the above stages.

Carlos CELDRAN from Cuba, the outstanding stage director, playwright, and theatre educator, has been selected to write the message for 2019. The national speech for the World Theatre Day was written by Prof. Dr. Hülya Nutku. In her speech, Dr. Nutku emphasized the unifying power of the theater, putting a great responsibility on the writers and the importance of spreading community theatre groups in Turkey. In the statement, she touched on the art and artist beautified the world by pleasing the eye or gratifying the mind. She also mentioned the meaning of “Art is a mirror of a nation's culture level” expressed by Atatürk.

Muhsin Ertugrul, the greatest name in contemporary Turkish theatre had penned the first national message on World Theater Day in Turkey.

World Theatre Day

World Theatre was created by the ITI and was celebrated for the first time on 27 March 1962, the date of the opening of the “Theatre of Nations” season in Paris. Ever since, each year on that date, World Theatre Day is celebrated on a global scale.
