Mayor Uysal: “Kabataş-Mahmutbey-Mecidiyeköy Metro Line to put into service in the last quarter of 2019”

Driving Test was carried out in Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro Line, the first stage of Kabataş-Beşiktaş-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro Line, which will be the first driverless metro line of the European side of Istanbul by Istanbul mayor Mevlüt Uysal.

Mayor Uysal, “The total length of the Mahmutbey-Mecidiyeköy line is 18 kilometers long and has 15 stops. We will provide a fast, comfortable and safe transportation service to our citizens with the latest technology equipped with fully automatic driverless vehicles. Hopefully, this line will be in service through the fourth quarter of 2019 and Kabatas-Besiktas line will be opened to service in 2020” he said. 

Dr. Hayri Baraçlı, the Secretary-General of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality; Lokman Çağrıcı, the mayor of Bağcılar; Mehmet Tevfik Göksu, the mayor of Esenler; Hasan Tahsin Usta, the mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa; Fazlı Kılıç, the mayor of Kağıthane; Remzi Aydın, the mayor of Eyüp; Deniz Köken, mayoral candidate for İstanbul's Eyüp district; Nihal Yildirim, mayoral candidate for İstanbul's Şişli district; Serkan Toper, mayoral candidate for Beşiktaş district; the Deputy Secretary-Generals of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the head of Departments of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the director of IMM subsidiaries, representatives of the contractor company attended the test drive event held at Tekstilkent/Giyimkent Station.

Uysal: “Mahmutbey-Mecidiyeköy line is 18 kilometers long and has 15 stations”
Mayor Uysal informed journalists before the vehicle driving test, “As of today, the vehicle test drive has started in Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro Line. Test drives will be carried out primarily with the manual system. Then, driverless test drives will be starting and Mahmutbey-Mecidiyeköy line is 18 kilometers long and has 15 stations. After the Üsküdar-Ümraniye-Çekmeköy/Sancaktepe Metro Line opened last year, it will be the second and the first driverless metro line of Istanbul on the European side of the city. We will provide fast, comfortable and safe transportation services to our citizens with the latest technology equipped with fully automatic driverless vehicles. Hopefully, this line will be in service through the fourth quarter of 2019.”

Uysal: ” When the entire line is opened to service, eight districts to connected by line” 
Mayor Uysal stated that archaeological research has been going on in Kabataş-Beşiktaş Metro Line, which is a continuation of the line, “The works in this area will be completed and opened to service in 2020. The whole line will have a total length of 24.5 km. A total of 19 stations will connect Bağcılar, Esenler, Gaziosmanpaşa, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Şişli, Beşiktaş and Beyoğlu districts to each other. These districts are also the regions with the highest population density in Istanbul, the vehicle load in the traffic will be lightened and so, comfortable and fast transportation will be provided from one place to another. There will be parking spaces in 4 stations. It will be able to transport 70,000 passengers in one direction, 1 million passengers per day.” he added.

Uysal: “We ranked first in the world in rail system operations”
Uysal highlighted that Istanbul was the city where the most rail system construction works have been carried out in the world. “The length of the rail system providing service throughout Istanbul has reached a total of 231 km. Works are currently in progress on a total of 222 km rail system line. Thus, Istanbul ranks first among the cities in the world where rail works are underway. We continue our efforts to open service a total of 1,100 km of metro line in Istanbul after the year 2023. We integrate land, sea and air transport of Istanbul with rail systems. While making our projects, we care about the fast and comfortable transportation as well as being environment-friendly.” Uysal added.
