Smart Cities Summit Begins in Istanbul

Organized by Marmara Municipalities Union (MMU), "Smart Cities Summit"organized with the main theme of "Cyber Security" started with the opening speech of Mevlüt Uysal, Mayor of Istanbul and President of Union of Municipalities of the Marmara Region at the Point Hotel Barbaros İstanbul.

The summit will be held on December 19 and 21, 2018 in Istanbul. The main theme of the summit this year is “Cyber Security.”

Mevlüt Uysal said, “With the development of technology, we integrate municipal services with intelligent systems. As much as we invest in technological systems that will ease the city life, we also make significant investments in the security of these systems. Thus, we are an example to Turkey with the projects we have implemented.”

Mevlüt Uysal, Mayor of Istanbul; Lokman Çağrıcı, the mayor of Bağcılar district; member mayors of MMU; Mr. Adil Karaismailoğlu, Deputy-Secretary-General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Mr. Faruk Eczacıbaşı, Vice Chairman of Eczacıbaşı Group, cybersecurity experts and many guests attended the opening ceremony.

What is Smart Cities?

Municipalities, due to being closest public institutions to people, with the support of private sector in order to provide the technology that will offer the best service for the people of the region, are responsible for equipping cities with technological infrastructure and raising living standards of the citizens.

Smart Municipalities and Cities Summit is an event that municipalities in particular, and the representatives of relevant government and the private sector, come together in order to put technology at our people’s disposal much more.
