IMM’s Athletes Won 15 Medals at Mediterranean Games…

In Tarragona, Spain, between June 22nd and July 1st, 2018, one the most underrated sports events took place. Under the national jersey, 29 sportsmen of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club representing our country in 9 branches won 8 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals.

The Mediterranean games is a big deal with 26 nations competing in 33 different sports with 4000 sportsmen and Turkey came in third with 95 medals, 31 gold, 25 silver and 39 bronze after Italy (155) and Spain (120).

Turkish athletes won 12 medals, including five gold, in the 2018 Mediterranean Games.

Turkish world champion sprinter Ramil Guliyev broke the 35-year record with 20.15 seconds, winning the gold in the men's 200 meters, the statement said.

He was congratulated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Others who took home the gold included Kayra Sayit in judo, Ece Öztürk in bocce, Zübeyde Süpürgeci in athletics and Başak Eraydın-İpek Öz in tennis doubles.

Two others won silver medals -- Yasmani Copello Escobar in athletics and Gulcin Celik in bocce.

Taking home the bronze were Ali İhsan Alagaş, Onur Sipal and Burak Akşin in boxing, Yunus Sar in taekwondo and Anıl Yüksel-Sarp Agabigün in tennis doubles, the statement added.

The IMM’s athletes who won medals under the national jersey at the Mediterranean Games is as follows:

Wrestling: Metehan Başar - Gold, Yunus Emre Başar - Gold

Badminton: Neslihan Yiğit - Gold

Weight Lifting: Daniyar Ismayilov – a gold in the snatch, a gold in the clean and jerk

Taekwon-do: Rukiye Yildirim - Gold, İrem Yaman - Gold, Nafia Bird – Bronze, Hakan Reçber – Bronze

Karate: Erman Eltemur - Gold, Burak Uygur - Silver, Eda Eltemur - Silver, Meltem Hocaoglu - Bronze, Serap Özçelik - Bronze

Judo: Büşra Katipoğlu – Bronze
