Istanbul Celebrates 94th Anniversary Of Republic Day…

The Republic of Turkey marked its 94th anniversary of the day that the republic was formed with celebrations planned across the country and in Istanbul.

The Celebrations began early Sunday October 29th with official ceremony in Istanbul.

The 94th anniversary of the Republic Day was started in Taksim Square with the laying of a wreath at Taksim Republic Monument.

Then there was an observing a minute of silence and singing the Turkish national anthem to remember the martyrs of Turkey with the participation of Mr. Mevlüt Uysal, the mayor Istanbul, military senior officers and the people of Istanbul.

Ceremonies in Istanbul took place at the central Vatan Avenue
 to celebrate the 94th anniversary of Republic Day on October 29, 2017 in Istanbul. Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin, Istanbul mayor Mevlut Uysal and 1st Army Commander Gen. Musa Avsever attended the ceremony on Sunday 29th, 2017.

Istanbulites held Turkish flags while watching the parade and applauded military and police officers' march.

Heavy security measures were also taken in Istanbul and people entered the parade area after a body search. 

Each year, Turkey marks Republic Day on October 29, a commemoration of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey.

The first proclamation of the Republic was officially declared by its founder and first president Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1923.

On that day, the new name of the nation and its status as a republic was declared.

After the declaration and a vote in Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, Ataturk was unanimously elected as new republic’s first president.

Free concerts and other celebrations will also be held across the country.

The Republic Day was also marked at Turkey’s representations abroad.
